ArtDates is an attempt to stop the endless cycle of meeting awesome collaborators, talking about making something and then never having the time or coordination to make it happen. I meet with a collaborator for one day and we make something from scratch. Whatever is made at the end of the Date is the piece and we create some artifact (video, performance with an audience, audio, etc.) to mark that.
I had my first Art Date with Amalia Colon-Nava in August. We talked about what we were interested in and spent some time gathering texts that we were working with. In the end, we didn't use any text. We found, though, that our texts lead us to an exploration of containment and release, bound and unbound. We created this improvisational score, which flows into a partnered duet. We are currently working on refining this piece for performance!
